The International Seating Symposium Post Show Thoughts
The 2019 International Seating Symposium is over and is in the books, as every ISS before, as tremendous success. Pittsburgh, PA was a gracious host to all who attended. Besides Aquila Corporation, several other seating and positioning companies shared their goods with the general public as well as with several students, therapists, medical personal, durable medical equipment dealers and many others looking to learn and see what is available this year in seating and positioning.
There were several chair manufacturers. There were more chair manufacturers than I could count. There were power chairs, manual chairs, colorful chairs of each type, pediatric chairs, bariatric chairs, shower chairs, you name it, it was there. I don’t know how people choose between the number of chairs available. That was just the chair, then you start adding options. I was amazed at the number of options. Wheels, colors, head rests, arm rests, foot plates, back pads, etc. The one thing I did notice is they either didn’t have a cushion on the metal seat plate or it was a static piece of foam. Not much of an option when it came to seat cushions, the most important part of a wheelchair.
Not as surprising, Aquila Corporation was the only automatic, alternating custom cushion at the 2019 International Seating Symposium. Every other cushion at the 2019 ISS was static. Not one cushion in the entire convention hall did anything for the end user. Every cushion, other than the Aquila, required the end user to lift oneself off the cushion by performing pressure lifts to interrupt the constant unrelieved pressure that is applied by sitting on a static cushion.
The people who visited Aquila’s booth were impressed with the technology we presented them with. The Bluetooth technology is second to none in the industry. Aquila is not only the only automatic alternating cushion at the ISS, but also the only cushion with wireless technology controlled via Bluetooth technology. People were very impressed, and I understood why after walking through the hall and seeing the other cushion options. Static cushions are not beneficial to tissue health. They are prone to leak, retain odor, and you never know if there is enough air in the cushion, especially if there is a cover on it. Insist on the best for yourself, your loved ones, your clients. Insist on Aquila.
The ISS closed the doors on Friday the 22nd of March 2019. Until 2021, Aquila will continue to improve our product line and listen to our clients. Aquila will never remain “static” we will forever be “dynamic” growing, learning, improving.
